The Money Advice Trust along with Energy UK, are to set up an initiative which is aimed at providing guidance and support to the most vulnerable of energy customers.
The guide will help those with learning difficulties and mental health issues to better access energy services, as well as providing guidance to staff members dealing with such customers.
Energy companies are required by recently reviewed Ofgem standards to further enhance the service and assistance given to their vulnerable customers.
It is claimed that as the energy market is undergoing a major growth period with new suppliers continuing to rise, the guide could not have come at a better time to ensure everyone is on the same page and working with the same set of standards.
The Chief Executive of Energy UK, Lawrence Slade stated: “Mental health issues can affect anyone, at any time, which is why it is so important for energy companies to recognise this significant issue and ensure they are equipped to deal with the needs of all their customers.”
“This is a challenge that is not unique to energy companies – across our society we need to take huge leaps forward in recognising and responding to the impact that mental health issues can have on a large part of the population.”
