The Industrial Sector has been earmarked for decarbonisation in new government plans.
The sector, which produces almost 25% of the UK’s total emissions will see specific technologies and pathways set up to help the most energy and carbon-intensive companies.
The plan is set to maintain industry competitiveness while becoming greener.
The Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator, which has been set up to test new industrial efficiency technologies and define technology entry points, has already received £9.2 million of funding.
The new plan will assist larger companies to reduce emissions and energy use while aiding financial investment opportunities.
It is claimed that Carbon Capture and Storage solutions will be of primary importance to many of the most polluting manufacturing industries, such as chemicals, oil refining and steel sectors.
Whereas biomass has been suggested for several industry sectors such as the paper industry, glass production and food and drink industries.
It also plans to transition the measures into household use to aid consumer energy efficiency.
