Green gas: how businesses can positively impact the environment

field

Not all businesses can afford 100% green gas, but that doesn’t mean your business can’t find a way to lessen the negative impact it has on the environment.

That is why Crown Gas & Power created three green gas plans: 25%, 50% and 100%. By offering three options, you can make a positive change and reduce your company’s carbon footprint – on a budget that suits you.

In an ideal world everyone would choose to have 100% green gas. The blend of 25% and 50% not only aids in budget decisions but helps companies who use a higher quantity of gas to choose green gas also – giving them their chance to make a difference.

Crown Gas & Power sell Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origins (RGGOs) and are proud to be part of the Green Gas Certification Scheme, which ensures the green gas we supply is securely tracked through the supply chain. Our green gas product is not to be confused with carbon offsetting.

 How is green gas made?

Through a process called anaerobic digestion, we can create biomethane – a gas with similar characteristics as its fossil fuel equivalent. The biomethane is added to the existing natural gas network for use in homes, businesses and industrial work countrywide. Any waste from the process is put back on the land as organic fertiliser.

You will receive a certificate showing the green gas credits we have retired on your behalf, as well as the ability to login and see extra details on the green gas you have purchased, such as production date and method.

What are the advantages of green gas?

  • Supports UK economy
  • Supports British farmers & UK green gas plants
  • Virtually carbon neutral (the good outweighs the bad)

When we extract and burn gas from fossil fuels, we reintroduce carbon dioxide into the atmosphere causing climate damage. Biomethane is produced from organic materials that absorbed carbon dioxide whilst they grew. When green gas is burned, it only releases the same amount of carbon dioxide and is therefore virtually carbon neutral.

The process of creating green gas is completely renewable and sustainable, which reduces our reliance on fossil fuel gas. All green gas is tracked from production to consumption, which is governed by The Green Gas Certification Scheme. Here you are able to view your certificate and find out more about the location and method of extraction.

Not quite 100% green gas ready?

It’s ok not to be 100% green gas ready. Instead, ease your way into 100% green gas by starting with a 25% or 50% plan that better suits your budgets. This way, you’re on the right track to becoming fully green.
